Matias, Alisa and the Queta (M.Alvarez)

Who is La Queta?

La Queta is a character created in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya , to star in several advertising campaigns in defense of the Catalan language .  It is a jumping mouth that works with a rope. Its name, a diminutive of Boqueta, was chosen through a popular vote during the TV3 program El Club.

In 2005, the Generalitat launched the Dona corda al català campaign. The aim was to raise awareness among the population about the need to speak Catalan to prevent the language from falling into disuse. The slogans that were disseminated were aimed at encouraging newcomers to use the language without thinking ( Parla sense vergonya ), asking Catalan speakers to use it in any environment ( Parla amb llibertat ) and highlighting the mistake of opting for other languages with strangers, due to their apparent origin ( Per commencàr, parla en català ). It was in force until 2007.

In March 2023 , Queta reappeared to star in new advertisements under the slogan Provem-ho en Catalan. Molt per parlar, molt per vivere . This biannual campaign was part of the package of measures to promote the use of the language that the government of Pere Aragonès had advanced in November 2022.  The new spot , which features singers from The Tyets , Koers and Marala , aims to reinforce the values of cohesion and tolerance associated with the Catalan language.

We are lucky to have La Queta at the school: there are only 3  big figures! We love it! And we love the “Començar” song! Sing with us!!
